Creepster

has anyone else received random "smiles" from strange men on friendster? this is a new experience for me...i opened up my inbox and there was a "smile" from "guy" on friendster. naturally, i had to log on to figure out who the hell this guy is. i'm connected through him by rapunzel (see prior posts to figure out who she is) who is friends with someone i'll call Mr. T (to make it easier to figure out who he is and if that doesn't give it away just settle back and listen to the deep rumble of his voice)...and that led me to "guy" who, even if you are logged in to friendster, has no name unless i 1) send him a smile back or 2) send him a picture of myself. eww. now, having read his profile in toto, it may just be that because "guy" is moving to d.c. he wants to meet people in the area as he claims, but....maybe it's just me...would you use friendster for that? or would you call your friends who might have friends in the area to see if you can all hang out? or is that too normal and non-technological for this day and age? i dunno. it's just kind of...creepy. i thought i'd maxed out on my friendster-related creepiness when they set up the "who's viewed me" function which i quickly turned off once i realized ex-roomie had viewed me and could see that i had viewed her, but i guess i was wrong. receiving smiles from greazy looking guys is creepier.

hmm...having freaked out and calmed down about this, i have to wonder couldn't the guy's name actually be "guy"? wow. that would make me feel quite dumb...which means his name probably is guy. now here's the real question--do i have to respond in some way? or can i ignore him?

ok, i guess the point is that who cares whether he's attractive or not (but for the record he isn't unattractive, though slightly "greazy"-looking as i indicated)...it's just i find friendster a weird way to try to meet people. i use it mainly to look up frenemies...and let's see how i can help you figure out who Mr. T is--deep voice & foreign accent. does that help?

Ah...i just found out he "smiled" at another of our friends who is currently working for a judge in TX. her theory: Mr. T must have indicated that chicago girls in remote locales are easy...god i hope that isn't it.

well, and maybe we're pioneers of a new method to meet people! who knows? maybe years later, our kids will be like, "how did you meet people without online networks???"
