Workin' Like A Dog - Lives In Contrast
I felt absolutely sinful yesterday leaving the office at 5:30p. It has been weeks since I've left the office that early in the middle of the work week! I couldn't help but reminisce upon those good 'ol days last fall when that was the norm, when I didn't obssess over the number of hours I was billing, when every weekend I had a weekend...ah, those were the days.
Roomie, on the other hand, had possibly the worst day he's had at work thus far. I didn't get details because after getting home around 8:00p, he actually returned to work at 11:00p! Eeeeek! Sometime around 2:00a he came toddling back home - an improvement really since he had planned on having to spend the night at the office. Man, oh man. Things are starting to get serious.
Look, I've had to work hard, but not like that, okay? Today, I'm hoping to lie low and not attract anyone's attention. This is possibly the only time I'm actually hoping that Murphy's Law will hold up - you know when you're really busy, you get more work, and when you're slow, you get nothing. I'm counting on the nothing today.... Keep your fingers crossed.

what i want to know is, why is it when you have lots of long-term projects going that are time-consuming and have to get done, you get little crap assignments that are supposed to be quick and easy but then turn into the project from hell and take frickin' forever? what's up with that?
That is because the statement "It should be a quick research assignment" is really JadedLawyerSpeak for "This is too hard/annoying for me to deal with and I'm busy."
