Reserved celebrations

Today is the annual "Dip Day" on my floor where everyone brings a food item for all of us to graze on and there are card tables decorated in snazzy holiday lights. Not sure why it's called "Dip Day" since we're encouraged to bring whatever we want. The email reminder had a giant chocolate bundt cake as the graphic. But whatever. Food! All day! I've been looking forward to this, especially because this time last year, I didn't belong to this floor and watched them in envy while they noshed.
Apparently there is some conflict over Dip Day. It seems that when half of my former floor (34) merged with Dip Day floor (36), we diluted the excitement over Dip Day. The former 34 secretaries keep saying that they just "don't get" the concept of Dip Day. Food hanging out all day? That's not safe! Why not organize it so that people sign up for different types of food (because 90% of the food laid out right now are desserts)? The incumbent secretaries of 36 have remained stalwart, refusing suggestions or changes to their tradition. So now not everyone's on board for Dip Day and those that don't get the concept are not participating. There's a slightly noticeable restrain in festivities today as a result. Whatever. Food! All day!
