I can already tell it's going to be one of those days.
It's grey out and raining. I woke up late. I really don't know why I go through the trouble of blowing my hair dry in the mornings when it's raining out. Today I had to wear a suit, which, of course, is now all weirdly wrinkled from the frantic tussle in my room to pull on clothes and from getting wet on my way to work.
And now that I'm here at work, I'm so unmotivated to do any of the mindnumbingly tasks I have planned for the day. Least of all of these tasks that I'm not looking forward to is yet another visit to what I like to call, Dilbertland.
Yes, folks, the world of Dilbert is alive and well. Our client's office is a maze of cubicles and people who can't seem to find anything to save their lives. E-mails and instructions disappear into some black hole in the universe of their computer network. "I never got that e-mail" is a common reply; as is, "So-and-so never told me I was supposed to do that." Files and papers get eaten by mysterious things that go knock in the night: "I know I put it here; someone else must have moved it." And the person you think who's going to be able to guide you through the maze ends up not knowing who does what, who sits where, or what's going on - "Oh, I guess that person doesn't work here anymore. Ummmm, I don't know who you should talk to." The last time I was there, I somehow indirectly was blamed for losing several files...the very ones that I went over to review and get copied.
Dilbertland is a tricky place, let me tell you. You gotta be on your toes. And you must pack a lot of patience and your sense of humor. Unfortunately, today, I think I left my patience at home and I know my sense of humor is still in bed...where I so desperately want to be right now.

and let us just hope that the client docs you needed to review 1) don't end up being produced the 10th day of trial after you gave them up for lost 3 years ago and 2) don't sink your trial into the ground...
